World Refugee Day Events!
This event will be held June 16 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM - June 17 from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM to at Big Cottonwood Park! Utah Workforce Services and Refugees Services are happy to announce that World Refugee Day celebrations will return to Salt Lake City on June 16th and 17th, 2023. Last year's event was an incredible success, and we could not have done it without all the volunteer support we received. We will again be relying on the volunteerism of our community to make this event possible, and we wanted to give you the opportunity to sign up for volunteer shifts before we open it up to the public.
For anyone age 16 or older interested in attending a shift, please fill out this google form. You are welcome to sign up for as many shifts as you like; we will communicate with you about our volunteer needs after seeing your hours of availability. All volunteers will also be asked to attend a brief virtual training to prepare them for the event and are required to have completed a background check through the volunteer organization they are affiliated with. If you have any questions, or would like to learn more about this opportunity, please email Kris Hansen at kristenhansen@utah.gov. Please, share this opportunity with anyone you think would be interested in joining us on June 16th and 17th. We cannot wait to work with you to carry out this amazing tradition!

Wellness Corner - 5 Reasons Why Community and Belonging MattersBen S. Fogel "Community and belonging play crucial roles in our lives and have a significant impact on our overall well-being and lifespan. Human beings are inherently social creatures, and our need for connection and a sense of belonging is deeply ingrained in us. Here’s why community and belonging are important and how they correlate with lifespan: Social support: Being part of a community provides us with social support, which is vital for our mental, emotional, and physical health. Strong social connections have been linked to lower rates of anxiety, depression, and stress. When we have a support network around us, we can better cope with life’s challenges, such as illness, loss, and adversity, which can ultimately lead to improved health outcomes and a longer lifespan."
