Starting as early as Monday, June 23, Millcreek, in coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, will conduct a geotechnical investigation for a proposed debris basin in Neffs Canyon. This is a crucial step for the project team to assess the feasibility and environmental impacts of constructing a debris basin, which will ultimately reduce the risk of flooding and debris flow to the Mount Olympus community.
Investigative activities include:
- Large drilling equipment will be on-site to collect soil samples.
- Small excavation will occur to create and backfill several test pits.
- Removal of small plants and brush to ensure access for equipment.
What to Expect:
- Investigation activities take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Drilling and excavation equipment in the area
- Limited access to the Neffs Canyon Loop Trail
- Main trail access will remain open
- Residents may experience increased noise during activities.
